Indian author beaten up for publishing book titled 'God'

A young Muslim author was beaten up mercilessly for four men for allegedly disrespecting ‘God’. The incident took place in the Palakkad district of Kerala on July 24. P Jimshar, a Malyalam writer whose debut collection of short stories titled Padachonte Chitrapradarshanam is scheduled to be released on August 5, was assaulted for using controversial word in his book title.

According to the police complain of P Jimshar, he was waiting at a bus-stop at Koottanadu in the district when four persons attacked him. Jimshar was assaulted because the accused felt that title of his book insults ‘God’. Padachonte Chithrapradarshanam means A Painting Exhibition by the Creator. In Malayalam, the word Padachon means Allahu (God). (ALSO READ: Muslim teacher told to remove Islam hoodie by pub in UK)

When Jimshar was waiting at the bus-stop, a man came to him and asked if he would write about “padachon” in a derogatory manner. The man along with three others assaulted Jimshar after suggesting him that nobody has the right to use the name of God in a literary work. “He took me a little away from the bus stop and asked, ‘Will you write derisively about Padachon?’ Then I was kicked in the chest. Three others also joined him and attacked me. Locals took me to hospital,’’ Jimshar told the Indian Express. Full story...
