French PM jets to Barca-Juventus final at taxpayers' expense...

France’s prime minister Manuel Valls has been criticised for flying in a government jet to Berlin at taxpayers’ expense to attend the Champions League final won by Barcelona, his native city in Spain.

Mr Valls abandoned his Socialist Party's annual congress in the city of Poitiers to fly to Germany, saying he had been invited there by Uefa president Michel Platini and would discuss France's hosting of Euro 2016.

He arrived in time to see Barcelona beat Juventus 3-1. Upon his return, he was spotted at the final of the French tennis open.

Opposition conservatives - and an army of critics on social media - cried foul, saying it was a disgrace that he should use a state plane for a pleasure trip at a time when the government is preaching austerity.
