The Sovereign support grant is set to increase from £31million to £37.9million next year - a rise of 22 per cent.
A report from the National Audit Office shows that the Queen is down to her last million in the grant reserve which represents three per cent of the her annual expenditure.
This may mean should unexpected costs arise – such as damage to one of the royal's uninsured properties – there wouldn’t be enough to cover it.
Anti-monarchy group Republic called on the Queen to follow the example of the Irish president and volunteer for a pay cut.
