Activist sister-in-law of Gordon Brown deported from Malaysia...

Clare Rewcastle Brown, the journalist sister-in-law of the former British leader, was turned back from the Malaysian island of Borneo one day before the country's prime minister was to meet David Cameron for talks in London.

Mrs Rewcastle Brown, who is married to Gordon Brown’s younger brother Andrew, is the founder of Radio Free Sarawak, a London-based broadcaster which is fiercely critical of the government of Sarawak, a state on the island.

She had landed in Sarawak on Wednesday but was promptly turned around and sent out of the country on a flight to Singapore.

With David Cameron set for talks with Malaysia’s prime minister Najib Rasak in London on Thursday, the timing of Mrs Rewcastle Brown’s deportation will come as an embarrassment. But it also indicates the extent of Malaysia’s unhappiness with her activities. Full story...
