French activist dies after fight with skinheads...

An 18-year old French far-Left activist died on Thursday night after a fight with skinheads in central Paris, sparking angry calls for the government to break up increasingly violent extreme-right groups.

Four people, including the 20-year old suspected perpetrator, were arrested shortly after the incident near the St Lazare railway station on Wednesday night.

Politicians from across the spectrum condemned the incident, with some on the Left suggesting the anti-gay wedding movement indirectly led to the tragedy by fuelling far-Right violence.

Clément Meric was a student of Paris' Sciences Politiques, member of the Solidaires students' union and the far-Left anti-fascist movement.

The country's interior minister Manuel Valls said the tragedy "bears the marks of the far-Right", while President Francois Hollande sent his "support and solidarity" to Mr Meric's family. Full story...
