Six students across Tamil Nadu commit suicide over class 12 results...

Upset over their class 12 examination performance, ten students across the state committed suicide. Two of them from Chennai had committed suicide even before the results were declared on Thursday, fearing poor performance.

Had Sam Immanuel of Ayothy Nagar and Meena of Velachery waited for two days, they may have been alive today. On Tuesday evening, Sam Immanuel of Ayothy Nagar ended his life by drinking phenyl. Sam worried that he would fail in mathematics subject and his dreams of being a marine engineer would destroyed. When the results were out on Thursday morning, Sam had scored 666 with 92 marks in Mathematics. "I had insisted that he score good marks only for his betterment. We never knew he would take his life," lamented his father Mariyaselvam, a cab driver.

Meena wanted to study engineering at Anna University. But as d-day neared she grew upset, although her family members claimed that they did not pressurise her. On Wednesday, Meena committed suicide. She was found to have scored a total of 692 out of 1200.

 In Tirunelveli, a class 12 boy immolated himself hours before the release of results, fearing poor marks. He had, in fact, scored more than 860 marks. In another incident, 17-year-old Sindhuja hanged herself in her house near Tenkasi on Thursday morning, upset that she was unable to score the required cut off to secure an MBBS seat. Full story...
