Clowns no more, jubilant Ukip are on the march...

Nigel Farage’s anti-Brussels insurgents were celebrating hard after graduating from “clowns” to serious political contenders by winning 23 per cent of votes cast in local elections and seizing 147 council seats.

Ukip also beat the Tories to come second to Labour in the Parliamentary by-election in South Shields with 5,988 votes.
