George Bush: Some people are surprised I can read...

George Bush has admitted his reputation is so battered that some people do not even think he can read.

The former US president spoke out after revealing he was glad his paintings – the fruit of his new-found hobby – are confounding his critics.

‘People are surprised,’ he told the Dallas Morning News.

‘Of course, some people are surprised I can even read.’

However the 43rd president, who left office in 2009, remains an unpopular figure.

A February Gallup poll found 45 per cent of Americans believe his presidency was below average or poor, with only Richard Nixon scoring lower among recent US leaders. Full story...
