Communities in India look to prevent fluoride contamination as new studies link dabetes and cardiovascular dsease...

Recently a university in India has found significant evidence showing that fluoride may cause diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Fluoride has been a very highly publicized topic in India lately, because there has been widespread fluoride contamination of large sections of the water supply resulting in noticeable health deterioriations.

The Times of India reported that:

“The problem of high concentration of fluoride in ground water, which is causing innumerable problems and sufferings to hundreds of people in Bastar, extends much beyond the boundaries of this erstwhile princely state and virtually plagues 15 of the 27 districts in Chhattisgarh. Fluoride contamination runs as high as over 10Mg/L, against the permissible limit of 1.5 Mg/L in certain areas of the state, posing extreme health hazards to the people.”

The article went on to say that this problem was in the process of being fixed but that it was going to be a very slow moving project. However, many of the people living in India are now even more informed about the health risks of things like fluoride and are pushing for access to cleaner water. Full story...
