Parents skipping meals to feed children...

Northern Ireland's poorest children see their parents going without food so they don't go hungry and say that they go without basics such as new shoes and a warm winter coat because their parents can't afford them.

A UK-wide survey by Save the Children revealed that the extent to which parents on low incomes are struggling to make ends meet.

40% have bought less fruit and vegetables as they struggle to budget to feed their families.

Financial pressures are putting families under enormous strain and 39% reported that they have not paid bills in the last 12 months because of lack of money.

Despite parents efforts to hide their money problems from their children, children are forced to miss out on basic childhood activities like having a friend round to tea (29% of parents could not afford this) and going without new shoes when they grow out of the old ones (19% of parents were unable to afford this).

60% of parents on low incomes have cut back on food generally. Full story...
