Apple Inc. said it didn't provide a set of IDs tied to its devices to the
Federal Bureau of Investigation, days after a hacking group claimed to have obtained the data from the computer of an FBI agent.
"The FBI has not requested this information from Apple, nor have we provided it to the FBI or any organization," said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris.
Earlier this week, the hacker group Antisec claimed to have obtained 12 million of these identifiers, raising privacy alarm bells among technology bloggers. Developers use the IDs, which are known as UDIDs, to track users across apps. The approach has raised privacy concerns because the IDs are tied to usage data that privacy advocates argue could identify people. Full story...
