UK in 'blind panic' on EU referendum...

The decision to bring forward a debate in the UK House of Commons on British membership of the European Union "smacks of blind panic", Nigel Farage has claimed. The UK Independence Party leader insisted that public pressure for a vote was gaining momentum and urged the coalition government to act in the interests of citizens by giving them the choice on whether to stay in the EU.

"Despite the prime minister ordering a three line whip, he does not have the confidence that it will work without him there to twist arms personally," said Farage. "Rather than delay the vote until he had returned from the Commonwealth meeting, he has brought it forward. He has done this simply to try to stem the flow of ordinary members of the public trying to persuade their so called representatives to do just that, represent their views. By applying their whips David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg have clearly shown how out of step they are with the people of the UK. By forcing their MPs to vote against an EU referendum, they have set them on a collision course with the electorate. It has become the people versus the politicians. The party leaders don't trust their own MPs, so tell me, why should anybody trust them?" Full story...
