12 children die in Indian state hospital due to negligence, but minister says it's ‘god’s error’

In Hyderabad ten infants died at a government-run hospital in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district in a span of 48 hours since Wednesday night. Two more children died a little later.

The infants’ parents said the newborns died due to the hospital’s negligence. They said ventilators had no oxygen supply and doctors did not respond to their complaints.

However, state medical and health minister Dr DL Ravindra Reddy gave the hospital a clean chit, saying the kids died as they were born underweight and there was no human error.

On Friday evening, Reddy had told a news channel, “There is no hospital negligence, it’s god’s error.”

 On Saturday, he said, “There are human errors and laxity.” He also said disciplinary action would be initiated against the guilty. Earlier, Reddy had said there was no negligence on the part of doctors. More...
