If you're a man in the Banda district of India who beats your wife, demands more dowry, or otherwise mistreats women, you'd better watch out. A posse of vigilante women clad in pink saris may soon come after you, and it's going to be ugly.

China's Youth and the Internet

Even the savviest marketers are amazed at how deeply China's new generation is engaged with the internet. Americans tend to have a relatively "functional" relationship with the web -- finding cheap flights, researching medical conditions, day trading and so on. On the other hand, Chinese netizens, particularly logged-on youth, are emotionally dependent on -- just stopping short of addiction -- virtual buzz. Consider the following findings uncovered in a recent IAC/JWT survey on American vs. mainland young digital "mavens":

Homosexuals and Pedophilia: is there a connection?

Homosexual activists deny that they target children for seduction into the homosexual lifestyle, but the evidence is overwhelming that this is a lie.

There is an ever-increasing effort among homosexual organizations to target public school children, to abolish age of consent laws, and to publish “studies” that purportedly show that adult/child sex is not harmful.

What really happened on Sept.11, 2001?

From 2001 through most of 2007, I didn't think much about this subject. I had casually wondered if the fires could actually be responsible for bringing the towers down, thinking about the heat and thermodynamics necessary to weaken the steel columns. I have an undergraduate degree in chemistry, and find thermodynamics very interesting. The idea that fires fueled by office materials and jet fuel (enhanced kerosene) could weaken steel beams, resulting in total failure of the entire structure seemed vaguely unlikely. After all, there have been other large steel-structured office building fires that had not resulted in complete, catastrophic collapse, but I didn’t dwell on my vague doubts.

What is it that Indians have that we don't?

Twenty-five thousand years ago, haplogroup R2 characterized by genetic marker M124 arose in southern Central Asia . Then began a major wave of human migration whereby members migrated southward to present-day India and Pakistan (Genographic Project by the National Geographic Society; http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ ). Indians and Pakistanis have the same ancestry and share the same DNA sequence.

Le prêtre et la femme noire…

Pendant le baptême, le prêtre perd les pédales et attaque une femme. Bel exemple de la charité chrétienne, non ?

During a baptism ceremony, the priest loses his cool and attacks a black woman. Fine example of Christian tolerance.

Cell-phone best-sellers

Until recently, cellphone novels — composed on phone keypads by young women wielding dexterous thumbs and read by fans on their tiny screens — had been dismissed in Japan as a subgenre unworthy of the country that gave the world its first novel, “The Tale of Genji,” a millennium ago. Then last month, the year-end best-seller tally showed that cellphone novels, republished in book form, have not only infiltrated the mainstream but have come to dominate it.

For me it's too late;my life is already f..ked up

A few months ago, a woman walked into my store. I was arranging the spices on the shelves, wondering who had mixed up the nutmegs with the cloves, and the cinnamon sticks with the cumin seeds. I was in an exotic state of mind.

The woman came up to me and asked for some information about the spices. (Guessing my origins, customers usually aim for me when they need advice on Asian condiments). I told her what she wanted to know and, thanking me, she turned to leave. But just before she did, she held out her hand to me and said, Monsieur, I wish you a long and happy life. Somewhat taken aback, I managed to blurt out a feeble And I wish you the same, Madame. She looked at me sadly and said, For me it’s too late; my life is already f...ked up. And she vanished, leaving me to stare at the empty space that she had been occupying a few seconds ago.

I had never seen the woman before and I have not seen her since. But I think of her often. And I wonder.

Enjoy!

The Coltan War

Isn't our technological age wonderful? Cell-phones, Playstation, Computers! Wow! What an Ali Baba's cave of techy goodies!

But in the heart of Africa, a terrible war has been raging. For more than 10 years. 5,000,000 people killed. Children used as slaves. Women raped with guns, with sticks, with molten plastic.

Par cette campagne, le groupe s’attaque aux multinationales qui, selon lui, cherchent à diaboliser les consommateurs et le partage pour sauver non pas les artistes mais leurs propres bénéfices. The Game Is Up

IN 2006 EMI, the world's fourth-biggest recorded-music company, invited some teenagers into its headquarters in London to talk to its top managers about their listening habits. At the end of the session the EMI bosses thanked them for their comments and told them to help themselves to a big pile of CDs sitting on a table. But none of the teens took any of the CDs, even though they were free. “That was the moment we realised the game was completely up,” says a person who was there. Read on...

Across Time and Space

Some time ago I watched a Korean movie called Il Mare. It’s a strange story about two people communicating between different time zones, using a mail-box as a kind of magical time machine. Their thoughts and emotions, parcelled into words, fly through space and meander around time, affecting their lives, creating their reality. Maybe, it would be more accurate to say that, for them, there is neither space nor time. They simply communicate.

Ours has become a world where communication is everything. Or almost. Is there anything that we do that does not communicate something to someone? Everything we do sends a message, the way we talk, the things we eat, the clothes we wear. We are communicators.

Don’t ask me why I decided to start a blog. I honestly don’t know. Maybe it’s just an ego trip that will give me some masochistic pleasure in revealing how little I know, and secretly gloating that others know even less than I do!! Or maybe it’s just a wish to cut across space and time and to see what others are doing, or thinking, or feeling. A desire, perhaps, to be in the timeless NOW and feel the pulse of the earth, through people I know and, maybe, through those I don’t know … yet.

Who knows, something might happen.
